JANE EYRE – HOMEWORK

Hand in the completed worksheet on Wednesday 18 January at 9.00

TASK – Answer the following questions on chapter 5 and chapter 6. You should write no more than 600 words for the whole task.

We will briefly cover these chapters on Wednesday 18 but you also need to read and prepare chapter 9 and 10 for Wednesday 18 of January.

Chapter 5

1.       Comment on the departure of Jane from Gateshead. How does Bronte want us to see this departure? Consider the role of Bessie here.

2.       What are the first impressions of the school? What is the role of Miss Temple?

3.       Comment on the character of Helen Burns. How does Bronte want us to see her?


4.       Identify 3 key quotations from the chapter and note down why the quotation is important and identify features of style in the quotations.


Chapter 6

1.       Comment on the relationship between Helen Burns and Jane. Why does Bronte focus on this relationship do you think?

2.       Summarise Helen’s views of God and people. How do you respond to them? How does Jane react to them?

3.       Identify 3 key quotations from the chapter and note down why the quotation is important and identify features of style in the quotations.
