A2 LL - READING AND FINAL WEEK ARRANGEMENTS

We have arranged that you will complete the three way comparison question during the reading week. This will be handed in on Wednesday 27 March in the lesson.

The complete question for this task is

Read the three texts printed [and given out during the last week.] The texts are all concerned with specific places.

  • Text A is the opening of the novel 1984 by George Orwell.
  • Text B is an extract from a non-fiction text.
  • Text C is a transcript of an adult talking about a recent holiday.
Compare texts A, B and C analysing how the writers and the speaker communicate their impressions of the places they are writing about.

Your analysis should include a consideration of the following:

  • the writers' and speaker's choices of vocabulary, grammar and style
  • the relationship between the texts and the significanceof context on language use
*As we have read, annotated and planned this material you should not spend more than an hour writing this up.

We have also arranged that you will write a timed comparative analysis essay in class during the week of the 25th March.

If you are in the class I share with Kay this will take place on Wednesday 27th March starting at 3.05 and finishing at 4.40 in room 1D7

If you are in the whole class group you will do this question on Wednesday 27th March starting at 10.15 and finishing at 11.45. If you have a class at 11.30 please ask them to allow you to sit this important mock exam paper. You will do the Recasting task and commentary on Tuesday 26 March in 1D7 - during the usual class time.
