FEEDBACK FROM HOMEWORK
· Use formal academic register – avoid clichés, colloquial lexis
· The title of books should be written Hard Times
· Use quotation marks for each quotation you use
· Avoid making sweeping generalisations or mentioning abstract nouns without some detail – ‘education’, ‘religion’
· Write in analytical paragraphs
o Make a simple point
o Expand on point / introduce quotation
o Quote a word or simple phrase
o Make at least two relevant analytical comments
§ Show how the quotation supports the point you made in the opening statement
§ Identify at least one relevant literary feature
§ And comment on the effect of this on readers / audience
§ Show how the quotation links to context
§ Comment on underpinning attitudes and values expressed
